Duplicate Contacts Msg does not appear in Outlook 2003

Outlook 2003 SP1 / Windows XP SP2

When I attempt to copy a contact from a Network Public Contacts Folder
(Exchange 2000) to my mailbox Contacts folder no "Duplicate Contact Detected"
message appears. I have used both the "copy" and "copy to folder" options
from the edit menu and both have not worked (created duplicates). I have
toggled the option within the Contact Options "detect duplicates" and it does
not impact this problem whether enabled or disabled. I have also applied
Office 2003 SP1 and missing updates to no avail. I've searched the web,
forums, etc. and cannot locate anyone else having had this problem however
found an MS article regarding Outlook XP which did not help.

Can anyone tell me why my duplicates are not being detected with Outlook
2003? In case its helpful, this is a new Dell laptop with a factory
installation of Office 2003 Professional.

Thank you in advance,

Danny

I seem to have run into the same problem.

I have my personal contacts (Outlook 2003) with an Exchange 2000 server and
when I go to copy a few contacts in a public folder and paste them into my
personal contacts folder it does not detect duplicates but instead creates
them.

To test I then went to re-copy and paste contacts I know to exist in my
personal contacts folder from the public contacts. It created duplicates.
Then triplicates.

I applied all missing updates including SP1.

Can anyone help???

From my experimentation, Outlook has no problem handling multiple copies of
entries in any folder. If this is a problem for you and you don't want to
clean them out manually, you'll have to purchase a third-party tool to help
you clear them out.
