My hard drive on my Windows ME computer crashed. I chose
to replace the computer with Windows XP as the operating
system. Is there anyway to restore the Quicken Backups
created with ME to the XP computer.

No, unfortunately. Another MS cock-up.

If you have the backup on a floppy disk, just install
Quicken to the computer and restore the backup from the
floppy.

Someone upgraded their operating system without backing anything up - and
this is Microsoft's fault!

I do have a backup. It was just created with ME as the
operating system and my hard drive crashed. My question
is whether or not the backup created with ME as the
operating system can be restored to a new computer with XP
as the operating system. If you know the answer to my
question, I would appreciate your response. Thanks.

That is what I have tried that doesn't work. Should it
when it was created with a different operating system?

No, you will need to extract the information using a machine using Me, or a
third party backup application.
Stomp Inc. Backup My PC will read the files.

There are no dumb questions, just dumb people....doh, that's not the
way it's supposed to be.

If you just copied your quicken data file to a floppy or CDR, you
should be able to install quicken, then use it to open the data file.
You may have to move the data file back to the HD first, especially if
you are reading it from a CDR (try opening an Access database from a
CD - Access has a seizure). If copying from CDR you will also have to
change the read/only attribute.

Greetings --

Of course. Just install Quicken on the new PC. You didn't think
WinXp would be able to open Quicken data files, did you?

Greetings --

Just which backup method did you use? Your original post said
that you needed to open Quicken backup files. Quicken uses a
proprietary backup file format that is completely different from those
used by either WinMe or WinXP.
