That should work fine. If your laptop has problems recognising it, check
your bios settings.

hi john
i got the windows server installed along wid vista and i thank you for that
but when boot with windows server 2003 it does not detect the ethernet
controller and the wireless controller
i checked out on device manager they show both yellow question marks to it
and say drivers are not installed
i really need the ethernet controller to be working as any other thing how
can get this thing to work or where can i get the driver for this OS. i
checked on the laptop manufacture website drivers for vista or XP are only
available
will the driver for XP work for windows 2003 server ?
please help i need the ethernet port to work or this OS is no use to me

The next place to look would be on the website of the chipset used for the
Ethernet controller. nVidia, Intel, Gigabit, Marvell, etc. You can try the
XP driver to see if it will work. Personally, I wouldn't modify the .inf
file to force it to install if it doesn't.
