Dual Boot installation recommendation....

I need some recommandations on setting up a Vista / XP dual boot system. I
have two physical hard drives ( C: and D: )
and I want Vista to end up on the C: drive and XP on the D: drive. I
originally started with XP on C: drive but I have now
installed a copy of XP on the D: drive also. Thus haveing a dual boot system
with two physical XP drives. I have moved all
my important and needed files to the new drive on D: so that I may format
the C: drive and install Vista on the C: drive. I
believe that a clean install of Vista would be better. I want Vista on the
C: drive because at some point in time, the XP install
will go away or be formatted leaving just the Vista install. Now that being
said, what is the best way to get Vista on the C: drive
and make sure that the XP install on the D: drive is not touched in any way
other that being part of the dual boot process.

By reading some of the posts and internet articles, it seems there are two
ways to do this. Either boot Vista from the DVD and try
to make sure that you install to the C: drive or run Vista setup from within
the D: drive XP install, format the C: drive and install the
clean install of Vista at that pont. Can someone tell me if either one of
the described processes will work as anticipated or do I need
to perform this process in some other manner?

Your help and recommendations are much appreciated.....

If you do this, whatever partition you select will become C: for
Vista.
or run Vista setup from within
the D: drive XP install, format the C: drive and install the
clean install of Vista at that pont.

If you try this, you will not be able to format C:, since it's the
system partition for Windows XP.
Can someone tell me if either one of
the described processes will work as anticipated or do I need
to perform this process in some other manner?

While running Windows XP off the D: drive, delete the three Windows XP
folders on the C: drive. Then boot from the Vista CD and install Vista
on the first partition without formatting the partition.
