Yes, you can.
Make sure that the files c:\ntldr & c:\ntdetect.com
come from your WinXP CD.

This should not be a problem though I strongly recomend that you install
Windows 2000 followed by Windows XP so that the requisite boot files are
upgraded to the latest version correctly.
