Is it possible to revert a dual boot (XP and ME) system back to a "single"
boot (XP) and leave the current XP files, settings, etc. in place? Or would
I have to do a complete reinstall of XP?

Yes, it's trivial - just eliminate the WinMe line from boot.ini (which
you can do with notepad, once you unhide the file, or you can use
msconfig), and then 'nuke' the whole WinME directory, and anything else
associated with the ME installation.
