I get on a number of sites (like PCPistop.com or yahoo.com) when I go to
PING as answer :"Request timed out"

Why is that? How do I fix it?

But there are some sites I can ping.

Internet access seems to be ok too, so is my mail.

Most "big" and "not so big" sites or home routers have a setting to not
answer PINGs or some other (ICMP) queries....

The site itself might have firewalling set to refuse to answer Pings. Not
everybody on the Internet is eager to be hacked.

In addition to what the others said, sometimes the server is so busy that
the request times out before it can be answered.

Most of the time, the source of the problem lies at the other end of the
request, and there is nothing you can do about that.

BUT - one must be able to PING PCPitstop in order to fully utilize their
Optimize software.
