Vista cannot ping itself and from other pc

Hello,

I am trying to connect a laptop running windows vista
for business with a desktop running xp professional sp2. Both machines can
get onto the Internet via the same gate way. Currently, in my Network Places
on the XP machine, I can see the Vista machine but when I ping from vista
mechine itself it is requested timed out and also the same when I ping from
other xp to vista also requested time out. On the Vista machine it can be
ping to other pc exept itself.
Question:
Why I cannot ping from vista itself while to other pc can?
What that can block other pc to ping because the windows firewall I already
off?
How can I solve this?

It would be best to ask this in another newsgroup, perhaps a networking or
Vista group. This group is for Microsoft Access, a relational database
program.
