Dropped IP address

I have a PC I just upgraded from 98 to XP Pro. My first
problem was a lingering ZoneAlarm firewall that prevented
me from pinging my own IP address. Once I fixed that, all
things worked great, for 20 minutes. Every 20 minutes
after I do a cold boot, I lose my IP address (and Internet
access). Any ideas?
 
Can you explain what you mean by losing IP address, e.g. what does
"ipconfig" display? Does the system event log (eventvwr.exe) show any
significant events occurring at those times?
