Drives being re-named

I have recently started having a problem with drive letters being
changed on an XP Pro machine. I have hard drives/partitions C to I,
and 2 burners to which I assign Y &Z simply to keep them out of the
way of removable drives, USB etc. All has worked well until a couple
of days ago when I discovered that Y had ben changed to J, which meant
that a USB drive which I had expected to be J was shown as K. I
re-assigned the burner to Y. Today it is shown as J again. Z has not
been changed.

The only change I have made to the machine in the last few months is
to add Zone Alarm Pro 7, but that was done a couple weeks ago and the
problem has only appeared in the last two days. Any suggestions as to
how I can make the assignment stick?

Start --> Run --> compmgmt.msc

Storage --> Disk Management

Right Click --> "Change Drive Letters"

You may have to temporarily change one to a letter not in use, so you can
get them all changed to your preference...

The problem is not with the USB drives, naturally they take whatever the next letter happens to be depending on the
situation. The problem is with one of the DVD burners, only one. I have gone through the renaming twice, and three times
the letter has been changed from Y to J. I'd do it again, but one of the signs of madness is repeatedly carrying out the
same actions whilst expecting a different outcome!
