Drivers for dvd drive will not load.

I have just installed (physically only) a new DVD rw drive, model NEC 2500a.

Xp recognises the new hardware and attempts to install it but fails. The
balloon message keeps repeating the same statements:
Found New Hardware .. CD Rom Drive
Found New Hardware .. _NEC dvd rw 2500a
Found New Hardware .. CD Rom Drive
Found New Hardware .. _NEC dvd rw 2500a

and so on. The drivers never seem to get installed.

However if I go to the Device Manager and click furiously, I can get the
hardware enabled and finally installed. It then appears to operate OK. And
then when I reboot the machine the whole episode starts again. Found New
Hardware etc. as it tries to reload the drivers.

How cam I get XP to recognise and permanently install the drive?

Did you install the drivers that came with the drive?

DVD/CD drives usually use the default Microsoft drivers.
