Hi,

My friend just gave me a computer I reformated it with windows xp home
edtion, however, it needs some drivers and I do not know what kind of
hardware the computer gots in it nor do I know how to find what kind of
hardware the computer gots in it either. How would I find what kind of
hard it gots to be able to fix the drivers it is for the modem for dial
up I think that needs the drivers.

Thanks so much!

Standard blurb, apply as appropriate:

Never get drivers from Windows Update. Get them from:

1. The device mftr.'s website; OR
2. The motherboard mftr.'s website if hardware is onboard; OR
3. The OEM's website for your specific machine if you have an OEM
computer (HP, Dell, Sony, etc.).

Read the installation instructions on the website where you get the
drivers.

To find out what hardware is in your computer:

1. Read any documentation you got when you bought the computer.
2. If the computer is OEM, go to the OEM's website for your specific
model machine and look at the specs (you'll be there to get the drivers
anyway)
3. Download, install and run a free system inventory program like Belarc
Advisor. The older Aida32 is good for this, too.

If you are just looking for modem drivers, remove the modem from the machine
and look for a manufacturer label.. this may only be a small label
containing a few numbers..

Run whatever you find in a Google search..

1) Start > Run > MSinfo32.exe.

or

2) Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Information

or

3) Start > Run > DXDiag.exe.

or

4) Right-click My Computer > Manage > Device Manager.

or

5) If none of the built-in tools provide the information you want, you

Ask your friend will he/she give you the drivers, or pay the bill if you call a tech?
