drivers and compatibility

I have just purchased a Belkin USB peripheral switch which allows two pc's to
access a sinlge external usb device such as a printer, external hard drive
etc....in short it allows two pcs to share any external usb device.

I have two Medion PC's one with XP the other with Vista.

Software loaded fine onto both PCs and the external HD is recognised on the
XP machine.

When I click open the Belkin icon to switch the USB device to the Vista
machine it says one of the usb devices is not recognised....the usual error
message.

However, it also states that the most up to date drivers are installed.

Phoned Belkin who said to put the Vista disk in and upgrade the drivers?????

I am not pc literate so not sure where to look for updated drivers
BUT....surely they would have been installed from the outset.....

Can anyone help please...it would be much appreciated.

Kind regards and a Happy new Year to all

Ray

Start>>Control Panel>>System and maintenance>>Device manager>>Update Device
Drivers>> find that USB Device among Universal Serial Bus Controllers. It
should be marked with an exclamation sign.

in the next window select Browse My computer for drivers software>> Select
the HDD where your installation disk is put in>> The system will either find
the driver itself (unlikely) or you will have to go manually thru
directories, find files with .inf extension and select that folder as Open.
There may be a maze of various subfolders for you to navigate.
