Vista Ultimate : pbm with USB peripherals not working after standy/hybernate

Hi everybody,

I got this annoying problem with my brand new Dell Vostro / Vista Ultimate.

When I resume operation after Standby/Hybernation, some of my USB
peripherals are not working, although they can be seen in device manager and
indicated there as functioning properly. Consequently I have to perform a
cold restart of the PC to get back to normal.

The USB devices in question (printer, two scanners, mobile device) are
connected via a Belkin 4-channel USB card I equipped the PC with.

I found a number of articles about what seems to be a known problem. But
they are a bit confusing for me, and it seems the latest version of Vista
should have solved the matter.

Is there anything I could do/try? Any patch to download?

Thank you very much in adavance for your kind help.

The latest version of Vista Daniel is SP1. Take a look at this MSKB:

How to troubleshoot USB device problems that may occur after a portable
computer that is running Windows Vista resumes from sleep or from
hibernation

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/953367

I find this particular MSKB a little bit of a fudge because the admonition
to "install the latest updates" is about as vague as it gets considering
their are several hotfixes available in an average month on Tuesdays.

If you don't have Vista SP1 please install it. Vista SP2 is now in Beta
Testing, and it's projected it will be released around the first quater of
2009 but your milage may vary with predicting releases of Windows OSs and
their service packs.

Good luck,

CH

Same problem happens in XP

It might be power settings for the USB ports.

Try Start->Run devmgmt.msc

Under USB drivers (or controllers, see my sig)
Open ecah and every USB Root Hub -> Power Management -tab and UNcheck
"Allow computer to power off...

Many thanks for your message, Thomas.

Will try what you suggest. Question : dos it mean the PC will not go into
standby or hibernation mode?
