driver very slow

XP home and my computer has been slow to boot lately and even though the
machine is
clean of parasites (I have run adaware, spybot) then checkdisk, defrag
....msconfig is very lean and Norton AV is up to date.
So I downloaded and run Bootvis and in the driver section the driver named
SAVRT takes over a minute to load. I know this file is associated with
Norton AV and was wondering if I can do anything to "speed it up"
The funny thing is that in Bootvis, when I chose "optimize system" the first
reboot is lightning fast and then the computer falls back to its old ways.
This is more of an annoyance than a problem and would appreciate any help if
this can be fixed.

open my computer
r/click drive c
select tools tab
then select automactically fix file system errors
you will then need to restart your pc
