drive not recognising cd

Hi, I am trying to help my friend, who is completely computer illiterate,
burn a cd as he has a burner. I thought I could show him how to rip and
burn mp3s to make a compilation. I gave him my OEM Nero suite, but it tells
me that I have not got DMA and that it can't perform the burn. What is this
and how do I fix it. Have searched and have an idea how to rectify the
problem but am a bit scared that I might cause problems. His computer has
XP professional installed but has only a very small hard drive, under
10gigs. I copied a couple of my programs but the drive won't recognise them
although it does recognise cds that aren't copied. Would this be a part of
the DMA problem. Hope someone can help me, thanks.

In a computer that is old (has only a 10g hdd) you will probably hav
to turn on DMA within the bios

It's unclear what you mean when you state "I copied a couple of my
programs but the drive won't recognize them..." Copied means what? -
installed? What does drive won't recognize them mean?

Hi Maeve,

How is everything going now? Since you cannot burn CD by using Nero, why
not try to use the built-in tools of Windows XP? You can refer to following
article to burn CD in Windows XP:

306524 How to copy information to a CD in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;306524

If the problem still occurs, I'd like to suggest you take a screen shot of
the exact error message that I can perform research on it.

Thanks.

Best regards,

Vincent Xu
