drive name changed!

I recently installed Win XP Pro on my machine which has a cd rom drive and a
CD writer. Why did it decide to allocate drive names 'G' and 'H' to these
devices and ignore drives D,E and F ?
Just curious....

You can go and change it : Control Panel-Administrative Tools \
Computer Management \ Disk Management.

Setup must have thought that other partitions existed when you installed XP.
If you open Computer Management mmc and select Disk Management does it show
any other partitions other than the c: partition? Did you have any
removable drives attached to the machine when you installed XP?
