Drive Mappings to the same computer not on a network (Windows XP)

I just upgraded my computer from Windows 98 to Windows XP. I used to
have a P drive set to a folder on the C drive using the SUBST command
for a business application I used. Now I am being told the SUBST
command will no longer work with Windows XP and that i have to Map a
drive to the share rather than using the SUBST command. Well this
doesn't work if i am not connected to a network, once the network is
disconnected the drive mapping will be lost. Is there a way in
Windows XP to still have the drive mapping when not connected to the
network?

Thanks in advanced for any help!

John,

SUBST still works in Windows XP. Open Command Prompt and type "SUBST /?" for exact command-line params.
