My drive A is accessed (and rattles) at each shutdown. It works fine
otherwise. I use Home XP. Is there a way to stop this unnecessary reading of
the empty drive A at each shutdown?

Many thanks for any help in this matter.

Fleur.

right click on START Then Choose properties .. Then Choose Customise
Button, Now Click the CLEAR button

the Clear button is Removing the files that you recently accessed that
shows up in START / Documents

also your virus checking program cud be set to Check all Drives on Shutdown

Thanks for the reply, but I have a couple more questions.

Do I have to use the CLEAR button each time before shutdown?

And where is the Check all Drives on Shutdown found in NIS 2005? I have
looked but can't find it.

Again, thanks. Fleur

NO

The list will grow Again,, The a Drive rattle will come back again if
you USE a Drive to load something or To Save Something To!! Something I
learn when I had Win 98 and Win/me..

And where is the Check all Drives on Shutdown found in NIS 2005? I have

I have No idea What NIS 2005 is !!!

Check Drives on Exit or something like That

Again, thanks.

I am a transcriptionist and save files to the A drive almost constantly for
transport to the office, so that is obviously one of the answers. Now that I
know about the CLEAR button, I can fix that before shutdown.

NIS is Norton Internet Security. Just can't seem to find the Check Drives on
Exit tab, although I have read about it from others.

Use the Help Files with Norton Anti Virus and you will find the steps to
follow in order to stop NAV from Scanning the Floppy Drive at shutdwon.

If you cannot manage that, call SYmantec Technical support and they can
guide you through this - for a fee!

Hi,

I am not using NIS, but the setting for the a-drive can be found like this:

Open NAV and choose the Tab Options. On the left you'll find under System
Auto-Protect. Click on it and then choose Advanced. After that you will see
in the right window (advanced options) Scan floppydisk for viruses etc.
Uncheck this option.

I'll hope this will help, because I am working with a dutch version and I
don't know wether the translation is correct or not.

Thank you. I found it. Always best to avoid calling Symantec for help. So
far I haven't had to because of the help I can get on the newsgroups. Again,
thanks.

You're welcome
