Drag & Drop

Any help.

When I Drag & Drop files between folders using left button of mouse, it
drags OK but does not drop, it copies. What needs to be done to make it do
what I want.

Try using the right button of the mouse (as opposed to "left", not as
opposed to "wrong", heh) and choose Move File.

Either that, or select what you want to move and hit Ctrl X and then go to
where you want to put it and hit Ctrl V.

drag and drop, doing the same on the other one it drags and copies.

Drop it on the Same partition/drive you get Move. Drop it on a different
partition/drive you get Copy. That is what you get with left button. Use
the other button if you want a choice. If this is not what is
happening, you are getting the "Copy on the same drive or partition"
then the Ctrl button will toggle to cause this.

Hold down shift while you drag and drop and it will move the file instead of
copy.

Don't quite understand your problem.

For drag and drop of a file, AFAIK, drag means you put the mouse pointer
to a file and hold down the left mouse button then you can pull the file
between folders and drives. Drop means you release the left button on
the destination (folder) the file will be copied (with a small + sign)
or moved (press the shift key prior to release the left mouse button) or
create a shortcut if the file is a .exe. So drag and copy, drag and move
are all included in "DRAG & DROP".

What happened in your first machine which let you drag and drop? Coping
or moving or anything else?

Please give more information on your problem.

Hi Tony

Are you copying the files to a different drive/partition? If you drag an
item to another disk or partition, it is copied rather than moved.

If not, when you drag a file with the right mouse button and then
release the button, which option in the context menu is bold?

Hi, the problem is that little + sign, on one machine its there on the other
it is not.
This occurs when i am do indentical drop and drags to the same files and the
same folders. I just cann't find out why.

That little + sign means "copy".

When you drag and drop file(s) within the same partition/drive, eg from
c:\temp1 to c:\temp2, there should NOT be a + sign. the file(s) will be
moved from c:\temp1 to c:\temp2 ie copy the file(s) from c:\temp1 to
c:\temp2 and then delete the original file(s) in c:\temp1. The + sign
appears only if you press the "Ctrl" key prior to release (DROP) the
left button, that changes from move to copy.

When you drag and drop between different partitions/drives eg from
c:\temp1 to d:\temp2, the + sign appears and the file(s) will be copied.
The + sign will go away if you press the "Shift" key prior to drop the
file(s) by releasing the left button. It changed from copy to move.

You performed the SAME "drag and drop" in both machines (within same
drive or between different drives) but got different result. Is it
possible that you got a sicky "Shift" key or "Ctrl" key in your
keyboards? Try to swap over the KBs to see any change.
