Cannot Drag and Drop

Just recently I've become unable to drag-and-drop things in Windows XP sp2.
I cannot drag and drop files from one explorer window to another - I
never get the "ghost" image of the object I'm trying to drag, whether I
do it with the left or the right mouse button. The clicked-on item
becomes selected, but I can never move it.
I cannot drag and move desktop icons.
I cannot drag email messages in Thunderbird to different folders.
I have the same problem whether I use an attached USB mouse or the
laptop's built-in touchpad and buttons.
I can generally do a right-click, copy, and paste files somewhere else -
just cannot drag-and-drop them.

Frank:

Thanks for the tip. The problem has disappeared as mysteriously as it
appeared (I can now drag and drop). But if/when it happens again, I'll
check that setting.

Thanks again.

I'm having the same problem. The computer fairy came last night
and made a change in my computer I guess. Ilooked at my
start menu and it is enabled.
