Drag & Drop Folders

Why doesn't Windows Mail allow me to drag & drop folders from my gmail inbox
into my local folders, so I can download mail I've already filed?
Thunderbird allows this. It would save a tremendous amount of time.
 
What do you mean by "gmail inbox"?
Are you accessing a POP3 or IMAP account?
 
"Gmail inbox" where? On the web or set up as an account in Windows Mail?
