Drag and Drop to Printer Broken

D

David Tong

If I drag and drop a file to a printer or to a printer shortcut in XP Pro it
normally prints immediately. However I noticed that now the ‘Move Items'
window and then the 'Copy Items’ windows appear. Only after I cancel both
of these does the printing get started.

Other points:
1. It behaves the same for all users on the computer.
2. Drag and drop to folders works normally.
3. A Google search suggested that
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shellex\DropHandler might be involved but this
key does not exist on this machine.

Can anyone help on this?

The Copy to and Move to Folder options weren't designed to be on the context
menu. That is why you have a problem.

See this to fix it...

Problem caused by adding Copy To and Move To as context menu entries

[[The "Copy to Folder" and "Move to Folder" options weren't designed to be
on the context menu. They were only meant to be placed in Explorer's
toolbar.]]

Wes,

Thank you for the perfect response - timely, solved the problem at a stroke,
led me on to learn some useful stuff...

I'd forgotten until now, but I experimented with MMM Contect Menu Editor a
month or two ago and it seemed 'a good idea at the time' to have these in
the context menu. I don't often drag and drop to printer so hadn't
previously noticed the drawback.

Thanks again for the help,
