Drag and drop does not work for XP

T

TooBad

I have tried every registry fix for this. I also noticed I can only run
system restore from Safe Mode now. Do not know if they are conflicting with
each other.

I have tried all in this group.

run system restore back to when you COULD drag and drop and to before you
fiddled with the registry.

System restore was the first thing I tried. I tried all check points and no
luck. Then I thought I might find some help here.

I do have Roxio, but it is not installed at this time. Drag and drop was
working the other day then it stopped, then it started and stopped the same
day and did not work for 3 days. Now it is working today.

I do not know why it keeps stopping. It is really pi**ing me off. lol
Something has to be conflicting with it.

Thanks for the help,
Nick

Dragging from where and dropping to where does not work.

Maybe I missed part of the statement of the problem, XP version, SP,
malware searches...

Anyway, here is a good starting point when things don't work anymore
for that unknown reason:

Download, install, update and do a full scan with these three free
malware detection programs:

Malwarebytes (MBAM): http://malwarebytes.org/
SUPERAntiSpyware: (SAS): http://www.superantispyware.com/
AVG (AVG): http://free.avg.com/

Hi jose,

I do have AVG Free and Malwarebytes installed. They both find nothing.
I also have Spyware Blaster, Spybot, HijackThis installed. They all find
nothing.

It just quit working again. I noticed some pages hang a lot or are really
slow trying to load. I have Comcast cable and it has been really fast, but
has been getting slower since I installed IE7.

I un-installed Adode flash player and my drag and drop started working right
after I got rid of it. Go figure, thanks for nothing Adobe.

I will see if this keeps working over the next few days. Then I will
re-install Adobe flash plug-in again.

Thanks,
Nick

I have Comcast also (Triple Play - woohoo!)

Does drag and drop works and it is just really slow or does drag and
drop not work (as your title).

If it is slow and sometimes seems fine, right click the taskbar,
choose Task Manager, choose the Processes tab, double click the CPU
heading to sort from most to least.

It will be updating and changing a bit. System Idle Process is like
"free" time, so the more the better and it should be on top of the
list.

My System Idle Process is never less than 85, but that depends on what
else is running

Under System Idle Process look at the processes with the highest
numbers. My Firefox runs 10-20 and is the next highest and the rest I
don't care much about since they are so low. I have Outlook, Task
Manager (obviously) but they are all pretty low. Most of mine are 00
so if you have a high one that you can't explain, you should figure it
out.

Adobe has had some issues in the past with their updater software, but
we need to see what is taking the time, instead of just deleting
things randomly (that may come later).

Do you see anything you can't recognize or can't identify that is
taking a lot of CPU?

Run down for me in a list the top 5 or 6 (Image Name and CPU only).

Oops - you said you "installed IE7". Didn't it come installed with
your XP?

Did you ever uninstall/reinstall it?

It's not IE8 is it (are you sure)?

When it system idles it is at 99 with this newsgroup window open. When I
shake the mouse back and forth iexplorer drops to 51.
System idle
taskmgr
ieplore
alg
spoolsv

This is my backup computer. My MOBO went out on my other one. So I had to
reformat this drive and installed xp pro on it again. Trying to play by
microsofts rule. I have only one xp disc.
So when I was doing the updates it installed IE7. I have been using IE6 for
years and no problems.

That's reasonable, so I will try to be clearer with my earlier
questions:

Dragging from where and dropping to where does not work? Something on
the desktop? Some folders? Inside Windows Explorer? To the Recycle
Bin?

Is it everything all the time?

What are you trying to drag and where are you trying to drop it?

Is drag and drop just really slow (but works eventually), or does drag
and drop just not work at all?

On the desktop I can not move a folder to the other side, unless I cut and
paste them.
Also in any folder, I can not move any file or folders around, unless I cut
and paste them.
Can not re-organize any items in IE7 favorites or my start menu.

Since I un-installed the Adobe plugin, everything is back to normal. I just
do not understand that was making all these weird things to happen.

I will re-install the plugin again in the next few days and will give you an
update on it.

Thanks for the help,
Nick
