this is very confusing so good luck in understanding this.

Last year I installed a second hard drive. When I did this, I copied
everything from the old to the new. I still used the old as the main drive.
The new had everything on it even windows XP. A few days ago the old one
died. I opened the case and pulled the old on out. Turned the computer back
on so the new drive would took over and it worked. Once it booted up, it
downloaded a bunch of updates from Microsoft. Everything was going great
until I tried to download new drivers for my video card. I tried to save the
driver to my desk top. I had the screen with the little globe and the paper
flying through the air. Everything looked great until the download was
finish. Once the green meter made it all the away across indicating the
download was complete, nothing happened. No window poped up (Do you want to
run this program window did not pop up). I minimized everything and looked
at my desktop and no file was there. It's like the file disappeared. I
tried downloading it to different folders, same thing happened. Tried to
just run it instead of saving it, once the download was complete nothing
would happen.

I installed a game next, tried to update it with a patch and the same thing
happened. It looks like the program installs but it does not. I get no
error msgs.
I even tried to install the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility, didn't work.
It's like something is missing or I have an unknown block on.
I have a Gateway computer and tried the recovery disk to see if that would
help. Still get the same result.

It sounds like you are using Internet Explorer. What I would advise is
that you run a spyware and virus scan on your computer. There are free
ones out there if you do not have one. If it comes up with something
that might be your problem. If it is clean, then try a different
browser (For Windows update that would mean a manual download). Some
good free browser are Netscape and Firefox. If all that still does not
work, then it may have something to do with the fact that you are using
a different hard drive. Try out my ideas and tell me what happend. Good
Luck!

That's the strange thing about my situation, windows updates download and
install fine. Everything else won't. Thanks for the help, I'll give it a
shot.
