Downloads never start

Greetings,

I have a machine running Win2K and IE 6 with all
patches/updates installed. For some unexplained reason IE
will no longer begin a file download by clicking on the
link that should initiate the download. However by right
clicking and selecting "Save target As..." everything
works normally. I have no idea how this change may have
occured and have searched through the registry looking for
a problem but don't find anything.

Does this ring any bells with anyone?
