Downloads in wrong language

I live in Switzerland and installed an English version of XP Home. Something
in my computer is telling webpages and downloaded applications to deliver
German versions when available. E.g. the Microsoft online ClipArt database
appears in German.

OK, I need to improve my German but not this way. Can anyone help?

Two settings that I know of control languages.

1)Note the ?displaylang=en in the link
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/wwlist.aspx?displaylang=en
For German, it would be =de
I suspect that this setting is saved in a cookie.

2)To specify another language for Web page content

Some Web sites offer their content in several languages. To view these pages
in your preferred language, you can add languages to your list of languages
in Internet Explorer.

1.. In Internet Explorer, on the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
2.. On the General tab, click Languages.
3.. Click Add.
4.. Select the language you want to add.
Note

a.. If you speak several languages, you can arrange them in order of
priority. If a Web site offers multiple languages, content will appear in
the language that has the highest priority.

Hi Ron,
Very many thanks. German was specified in IE. So now I feel a bit dumb
because I did not know it carried a preference.
Regards and Happy New Year,

Ron,
Sorry, I'm back. I changed the language in IE and downloaded Mozilla
Firefox to have a look. It's in German! I specifically sought out a page
where I could specifiy an English download and saw that it was installing
'En'.

I remove all cookies periodically

Regards,

In FireFox, Edit, Preferences, Navigator, Languages, remove German.

The new Firefox 1.5 doesn't have Edit/Preferences any more. Gotta go
Tools/Options now. Then General tab and Edit Languages. I only have
English there but for some reason if I clear the cache, cookies, etc.,
Google knows I am in Spain and displays their Spanish page.
