Downloads Hang or Freeze

I'm running Windows XP Pro on a network, and only one
computer on the network exhibits this behavior. When I am
on the internet, and try to download a file, it will
partially load and then hang. To complete the download
requires a half dozen attempts before it completes. I've
tried swapping out my cable modem without success. The
machine I'm running it on is a Medion 2.66GHz with 1GB
RAM installed. The network is hardwired from the cable
modem to a Linksys Router and then to this computer. I'm
unsure whether it is related, but I've noted that when I
try to send instant messages, they will get through, but
often the responses will not be received. Does anyone
have any ideas on where my problem lies?

Thanks,

Might be your network card going bad. Try using a
different one and see what happens. Also, try downloading
a program called, 'Download Accellerator' or 'GetRight'.
These are Download Managers that help you download. If
your computer disconnects while in the middle of your
download, the download manager will pause the download
until you are reconnected again. It will then continue
the download from where it left off. Thus, eliminating
the attempts to re-download the same file ten times or
so. The program will take care of it all. With the IM
problem, not sure. Might be your card as I said before.
I hope this helps.

Put in a new ethernet card and all is well again. Thanks
for the tip.
