Downloads don't finish?

Using XP Pro/SP2/IE6.
Seems to happen more with larger downloads.
Just today tried to download trial version of Acronis True Image 11 from
Acronis site.
Speed about 420Kbps, goes to 1% remaining and shows 136MB of 136MB
downloaded but it just sits there and doesn't finish, showing as still
downloading.
Have then tried it on a laptop using XP MCE on the same modem/router and the
same thing happens.
It happened a while ago downloading Nero which is also fairly large, doesn't
seem to happen with small downloads.
Would installing Firefox or Opera make any difference here?
Any help appreciated.

Tried Firefox, it couldn't even find Google, then Opera and the file
downloaded no problem.
Looks like it's Opera from now on.
