download problem

WinXP Home, broadband connection via wireless router.
I am trying to download a file from my mobo manufacturer's site (Foxconn)
Small files download fine but the larger ones (22-25Mb) all break part
way through the d/l
a couple of days ago the break was at about 42% and the d/l speed was
very slow.
The file is a zip file.
Today the file breaks at about 73% and the download is about 20% faster
- the first attempt got 18Mb and the second attempt made it to 18.3Mb.
I've tried both IE6 and Mozilla Firefox and I've cleared the
cache/history and temp files etc.

I've tried the UK site and the global site and the same thing happens
with larger files on both sites.

I have a feeling this is simply a problem at the other end that I can do
nothing about but if anyone has any advice I would be very grateful.

Grrr! That's really annoying! You got all 25 Mb of the "audio.zip" file
in 20 seconds?
BT Total Broadband Home (UK) - 2Mb fixed speed line (not maxed)
Speed on the line is fine according to speed tests and I have not
experienced this sort of thing before.
I also tried upstairs on my wife's Win98SE machine (which is ethernet
wired to the router) and had exactly the same problem so its not my
machine and its not the wireless.
I wonder if I have a routing problem?
I'll ask on my ISP newsgroup and see how they get on.

Yeah - I got all of the file and it plays via WMP 11.

I get 4 Lost on a ping as well, but can access/download from that site??
Gonna check on it.

Results from my ISP newsgroup - one guy got the file okay, another only
got 10Mb out of the 25Mb then it failed just like with me. Thanks for
the follow up.
the guy who got the file has offered to get it to me so it wil either
come by email or yousendit.com

downloaded here - 25,977 KBs - unzips and installs as should be.

Hmm. I'm in Texas and downloaded it in 2:22 (182KB/sec).

Probably would have been faster, but it had to go through Oklahoma (they use
a lot of barbed-wire for internet connections).

A number of people have downloaded this file or thought they had - but
they have got corrupted copies. I have been sent the resulting audio.zip
file a couple of times and each time it was corrupt and would not unzip.
The file is about 25Mb according to Foxconn.
It may be that yours is corrupt too - (trampled by the Oklahoma cows?)
have you been able to unzip it to a folder?

If anyone has a genuine undamaged copy of the relevant file audio zip
I'm interested in getting it - if necessary via yousendit.com where my

Have you tried upping your Temporary Internet files folder size to see if
that would work?

Go to Intetrnet Explorer>Tools>Internet Options>General Tab>Settings
Button>move the slider to be bigger and see if that helps. I have seen
where that is set to low and wont allow downloads as you speak of.

good thought - I normally have a small TIF/cache for both IE and
Firefox. Just increased them both to 50Mb and it made no difference.
Several others have had the same problem downloading the same file with
the download stopping at about the same point, so I dont think its my cache.

I downloaded the file and was going to send it to you but it had problems
unzipping. So, why do you want a corrupt file?

The error reads as: Some data in your zip file is damaged. The crc is
72e3f103 but should be 25073c7. This isn't the only one that does that
either there are more.....

yep - that's the baby. Somehow I don't think this is my problem I think
it is Foxconn's. No - I don't want the corrupt file - I've got several
of those already ;-(

Re: download limits - when I had my TIF/Firefox cache both at 10Mb I
could donwload large files from elsewhere no problem. I just tried this
afternoon as part of my troubleshooting and no problems.
