downloading

Cannot download Microsoft update downloads. Was advised
by an MS Professional to download and reinstall IE6. Did
this but still cannot download. Also at times when
clicking "back" nothing happens and the page freezes
resulting in the "error reporting back to MS" screen
appearing.
 
Exactly what happens when you try?

Is it only Update downloads or other files?
If other files, what file type? (only .exe?)
