Downloading Updates, Patches and Service Packs

Is it possible to scan for updates & patches etc on one PC
to see what is required. Take a note of the suggested ones
i.e. critical. Then use another pc with a faster
connection to select these and download and save to CD.
Then do the update on the original PC using the CD ? Some
of the updates are very big so using a 56K dial up machine
would take forever. I noted in your tech support help that
there is a 'corporate' option to save to a folder for
future updates but could not get it to work ???? Any
advice would be appreciated.

Hi Robert,

you could do the following:

Go to Windows update with PC1, scan for updates. Select all text on the
result page, copy, paste into notepad/word, whatever works best for you.
Print that list or save to floppy/CD.

Next go to Windows Update with PC2. Click personalize Windows Update. Check
Display the link to the Windows Update Catalog under See Also", click "Save
Settings", click Windows Update Catalogue. Search updates for your OS,
select the updates you found earlier for PC1. Click "Go to Download Basket",
browse to a DL location of your choice, dl.

Burn the downloaded files to CD. I would probably copy them to a folder on
the HD on PC1 for the install, this might not be necessary though.
