Downloading .csv Data from Yahoo Finance into Excel

Hello

Ever since a recent update of Internet Explorer 6 I have been unable to download .csv data from Yahoo Finance. However, my father who uses a MAC as well as an older version of IE for windows has no problem. I believe that the problem is a combination of Yahoo and some recent updates to IE6. Therefore I either need a workaround or a way to get back to an older version of IE 6 or even further back to IE5. Here is the background for the problem which relates to running a web query in Excel can be found below

I and many others have exactly the same problem. It's to do with change
made at Yahoo. See my other post on this topic. Their link has changed
If you left click their download link it now loads the data into you
browser window rather than giving you the option of saving a CSV file. I
you right click you get an error. This error, which you get from within IE
is also preventing web queries from working

I have found this is quite Windows/browser version specific. It may depen
on the security patches applied to IE as well. With IE 5.1 I don't hav
problems. With IE 6.0 with the latest security patches I now (as at a fe
days ago) cannot get it to work

Send a note to Yahoo -- it's definitly their service that's the problem. Bu
who knows whether it is something intentional on their part or whether it'
just a bug which they will fix

Yes, the recent IE update is involved but the problem really is Yahoo, who
hasn't brought the website function up-to-speed with current IE and Windows
security. (Not unusual for Yahoo, BTW.)

You can uninstall the problem update via Add/Remove Programs> 'Internet
Explorer Q832894'. Your anti-virus application and all other running
processes (e.g., OE, IE) must be closed prior to the uninstall and you will
have to reboot.

Q832894 includes very important security fixes. I wouldn't go without it
myself.

Matt,
See:
162059 - How to Configure Internet Explorer to Open Office Documents in the
Appropriate Office Program Instead of in IE:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;[LN];162059

Or, download Mozilla 1.6 just for situations like this. I'm a longtime fan
of IE, but I've been playing with Mozilla recently. It's faster than IE at
connecting to sites and displaying pages in almost every case. It's a small,
fast, well-behaved application. http://www.mozilla.org/

Or... I don't think this is related to the most recent Security Update, but
you might uninstall the 832894 patch from add/remove programs to see if that
was the culprit.

Hope this helps,
Don
