Download Speed

I've noticed that when we try to download any file from any
place, the download speed is slower with Windows XP; it is
30-35 KB/s and with a computer running Windows 2000 Pro the
download speed is averaging 100-150 KB/s.

I've run tests with Internet Explorer, and Netscape and the
results are the same. Both computers are connected in the
same LAN.

Check the RWIN setting; it can make a significant difference in speed.

It would help a great deal when asking for help if you gave more specifics. Unfortunately in XP access to the tcp\ip settings when using DSL or Cable or even satellite are not easy to get at. They are in the registry and optimizing them requiers some learning and experimenting. There is however a free program that I have tested extensivelly and that actually works as advertised. It's free. I messed up the settings in the registry to see what it would do and low and behold it optimized them to the settings I had originally placed in there. SpeedXP is free and also optimizes things like I\O pagelock limits and CMOS priority and so on. Don't use the "clear pagefile on shutdown" all that does is write a bunch of zeros over the pagefile and that takes a lot of extra time to shut your OS down. Good luck.
