That is the patch for use on multiple machines after downloading it.
We say not recommended for a SINGLE upgrade as it is 300MB and a
single machine may be better off using Windows/Automatic Update where
only the files required by that specific machine are downloaded.
Hi
I'm not so sure about that "may be better off using WU/AU", the only
thing I can see as positive with this method compared to downloading
the 266 MB standalone version is that the download size is "only"
80-120 MB. If you get the SP2 CD instead (containing the 266 MB file),
even this argument is moot.
I have seen reports where a WU/AU SP2 installation have failed (after
the WU/AU download is finished and the actual SP2 installation has
started), and then using the 266 MB SP2 file instead (on the same
computer), SP2 installed successfully. The other way around (full SP2
failing, then WU/AU succeeding) have I never seen any reports on.
Personally, I always recommend people to install SP2 using the 266 MB
SP2 file either from the SP2 CD or from the MS download center if they
have access to a fast internet connection. Also, this way, they don't
need to download SP2 again if they need to reinstall SP2 later on.
