SP-1 a requirement prior to SP-2?

I have XP installed with SP-1, SP-2, and all subsequent updates and patches
installed. Luckily, no problems, very stable, not a single crash. At some
point in the future, if I need to re-format my drive and re-install XP, do I
have to reinstall both SP-1 and SP-2, or is SP-2 cumulative (ie - includes
the SP-1 updates)? I have not been able to find any information about this
on the web-site. Any info or discussion would be greatly appreciated. TIA!

Q: Do I need to install Windows XP Service Pack 1 before installing the Service Pack 2?

No, Windows XP Service Pack 2 includes Service Pack 1 and it's a direct replacement for Windows XP Service Pack 1. Service packs are cumulative. This means that the problems that are fixed in a service pack are also fixed in later service packs. For example, Windows XP SP2 contains all the fixes that are included in Windows XP Service Pack 1 (SP1). You do not have to install an earlier service pack before you install Windows XP SP2.

Similarly, you don't have to uninstall Windows XP Service Pack 1 before installing Service Pack 2.

SP2 will suffice. It contains all updates to the date of sp2, surpassing any
need for SP1.
