I have a problem which I am not certain if it is Windows or IE: joining the
"Me" generation, I created a folder called My Downloads, and its supposed to
be like a virtual in-basket from which downloads of files are supposed to be
stored and then distributed as to whether database, document, graphic,
spreadsheet, etal.

Since getting XP, when I right click to save, the computer intimates that I
should put said download in C:\documents\my pictures, and I would prefer to
put them in F:\my downloads.

Any advice would be gratefully appreciated.

I agree that works, but I don't want to have to redirect it every time I use
it. On Windows 98, I said, "Computer, put all the downloads in
C:\downloads," and it did!

If you use a utility that cleans out your history etc., such a ccleaner or
any other such type of program, the setting will be lost.

Thanks for the info. I think that in TweakUI, I told it to clear history
every time I close the browser. I think the concept was, that nobody could
hack your history for any reason, if there was no history. Further comment?

You seem to have caused confusion with others replying who have not
picked that you created a User created My Documents folder. See the
following paragraph regarding modifying Microsoft Office defaults.

Create a My Documents folder in another partition and copy ( not move ) the
contents of My Documents to your new folder. Then delete the files in your
My Documents folder ( if you encounter problems deleting use Shift + Delete
to bypass the Recycle Bin ). You will also need to change Default File
locations in the Microsoft Office programmes you use. For Word go to Tools,
Options, File Locations, highlight Documents, click on Modify and change
file path. For Excel go to Tools, Options, General and change default file
path.

There is another way to do something similar:
How to Change the Default Location of the My Documents Folder

Hope this helps.
