Download EXE and Zip - not working

J

I am having a ton of troubles with Internet Explorer, and
am about to switch browsers.

First, whenever I click on a link to download a file,
nothing happens. Sometimes I see the download box quickly
appear and disappear (even if it's a hige file). Either
way, whenever I click a link to an EXE or ZIP file, I am
no longer prompted to save or download. The links don't
work, and don't take me anywhere. (regular page links work
fine)

When I type in the exact url of the file (in the address
line), and click "Go", the page just stops loading and
shows a blank white page.

How can I fix this?

First do this.

You set this for each file type, e.g. for .zip
Explorer-View-Folder Options-File Types
Find the .zip association (may be WinZip File)
Edit, (or click Advanced on ME or XP) and check the "Confirm open
after download" box

The path to Folder Options may vary according to your operating
system. It may be:
Explorer-View-Folder Options
Explorer-Tools-Folder Options
Start-Settings-Folder Options
Start-Settings-Control Panel-Folder options.
