Download Box Missing

When I click on a download link I don't get the downlaod
dialogue box. Downlaod starts in the background, and ends
up in the cache, but I can't tell the progress of the
download. Anyone got a clue??

Start>settings>*Folder Options* (path varies depending on OS)>File types
tab>Scroll down to file type(s) in question>Edit>place tick at "confirm open
after download">OK>Apply>OK out.

OR, open a window>view menu>folder options... then proceed as above.
