Downgrading windows

Hello There,

I recently had to format my HDD to get rid of a nasty virus. I had Windows
XP Windows Media Centre edition installed after the formatting but I have two
issues:

1- At start up the computer gives me a choice of operating systems (all I
have to do for this one is to find document number 307654).

2- I really don't like the way my machine works with this version of
Windows, it is a lot slower (Windows is good but my PC is getting a little
old). Is there a way for me to downgrade back to Windows XP Home Edition
without having to completely format my HDD again?

Any help will be appreciatied.

Then you did not "format" at all. If you had - you would not have the
choice unless you screwed up and installed twice in a row.
