downgrading from 2007 to 2003

I unfortunately purchased Office 2007.

Office 2007 destroys value by creating havoc when I collaborate with fellow
students who are using Office 2003. Especially Powerpoint 2007 is a problem
for me as files created in 2003 are automatically and permamnently destroyed
by Powerpoint 2007, and redoing the work is very time consuming (problem:
change language, change object sizes if changing colours, change font size
etc)

Is it possible to either downgrade permanently to Office 2003 or to once and
for all get rid of new functionallity in 2007? Or will I have to switch to
Openoffice.org in order to productively collaborate at school?

Thank you for responding.

However, my main problem lies in 2007 breaking old 2003 presentations and
thus the compatibility pack is no viable solution.

Whereas the compatibility pack helps my fellow students use my files, it
does not seem to be of any assistance whatsoever in stopping 2007 from
destroying carefully built slides made by them using Powerpoint 2003. If I
open a presentation written in Powerpoint 2003 in e.g. German and I use
Norwegian then 2007 systematically converts the language setting to
Norwegian. If I try to change the fill colour of a composite form, 2007 will
resize the shape. In 2003 text embedded in geometric figures is allowed to
have more space than in 2007, thus 2007 breaks formating to fit text to new
restrictions. Etc etc etc. This is at best infuriating and at worst has
caused loss of hours and hours of work.

The problem is how 2007 behaves and how 2007 breaks presentations made in
the old format by Powerpoint 2003. I need to get rid of the behaviour that
2007 exhibits - either by downgrading to Office 2003 or I must forfeit my
investment and bite the bullet and install Openoffice.org.

Further suggestions for taming 2007 are very welcome!

Thank you

Thank you for your response.

However, the problem occurs in two steps. On opening old presentations it
seems 2007 will e.g. apply different rules to geometric fiugures as regards
allowable space for text (a real nuisance when using arrows with text in
them). Then, when I edit 2007 seems to have much automated bahaviour designed
to support the casual user who has not learnt to use Powerpoint, e.g.
automatically resizing figures if I change the fill colour or apply/remove
lines around the shape.

The problem seems to be how 2007 behaves, thus the question: can I tame
2007 or must I forfeit my investment and opt for Openoffice.org

I wouldn't fight with it. I'd just install 2003 and be done.

I don't think changing the fill color should change the size of the shape,
but some shapes (like the arrows) have been tweaked in 2007 to size better
in general, so that might be causing issues, I don't know.

Thank you. I'll switch to openoffice to avoid PPT 2007 problems.

Your page echosvoice.com is helpful though of course it does not solve my
problem.

Thanks!

You may still have problems with Open Office's Impress. I know I did
something with it lately, and grouped objects especially did some wonky
stuff. So did objects with shadows.

I am in the same boat as the Befuddled Student. Of everything I've done in
the last year, by far the biggest mistake I made was allowing our company to
go to Office 2007.

I have seen it time and time again, presentations that were created in 2003
that have many charts are left worthless when worked on in PowerPoint 2007 in
compatibility mode. As soon as you edit the chart the colors are changed and
you have to manually change each chart back to the colors that it originally
was. It appears fine until you actually edit the object. Often times when you
save it down and someone in PowerPoint 2003 opens the file, as soon as they
go to edit the chart the colors change. The chart also appears less
sharp/blurry.

This issue is by far the biggest reason why I have had to go back and
reinstall PowerPoint 2003 on everyones computer, in addition to footers in
PPT2003 being butchered by 2007, autoshapes not behaving correctly in 2007
from 2003 and 2007 messing with the title slide layouts.

Very frustrating. We cater to Fortune 100 companies and it isn't always an
option to tell them to install compatibility packs when their computers are
locked down.
