double tap on touchpad stopped working

I hope someone can help...In the last few days my laptop touchpad has stopped functioning properly. When I 'double-tap' it to select an icon, it doesn't automatically open the link any more, but presents me with the shortcut menu for that icon that would normally come up when I right-click on it. I have looked at the configuration for the touchpad, and it looks fine to me, I even set it all back to default, but it still does this, and it is really annoying!!

Any ideas?

What changed between the time things worked and the time they didn't? If
you really made no changes and resetting your touchpad's properties
from Control Panel doesn't work, perhaps it is a hardware problem.
Since you didn't give any information about your laptop, like perhaps
it is older, more specific answers aren't possible. Check with your
laptop mftr.'s tech support and/or post back here with more details
about your system.

My laptop is a brand new Toshiba Satellite Pro, and nothing happened at all to make this change! However, since posting this, it has gone back to normal, without even restarting it...it did this the other day, just fixed itself! Still, it's a bit weird.

You might want to contact Toshiba tech support then. Random changes like
that usually indicate wonky hardware. There might be some strange
electrical problem where occasionally the wrong contacts are made and
something shorts out. A brand new laptop shouldn't do this, and if I
were you I wouldn't wait until the machine was out of warranty to
address this.
