double-clicking file locks up directory

When I try to open Microsoft files (.pdf file open just fine) by
double-clicking, the folder containing the file locks up and file does not
open. This has started recently.

Another recent change (related?) is that all clicking all links in Outlook
e-mails locks up Outlook.

Any suggestions?

OS is XP Pro. Office (Outlook 2003).

Thanks!

What do you mean "Microsoft files"? Microsoft Office files? Since you issue
seems to be with Office, you should post in one of the Office newsgroups.
Make sure you give complete details when you post there.

Look for the appropriate Office newsgroups here:
http://aumha.org/nntp.htm - list of MS newsgroups

If by "recent" you mean only a few days, you might try a System Restore to
when things worked. Also, it never hurts to make sure your computer is
virus/malware-free so you know you're starting your troubleshooting from a
clean base:

Malke - by "Microsoft" files I meant Word (.doc), Excel (.xls), Access
(.mdb), etc. For Outlook, I can't even get to the link provided in the
Microsoft e-mail notifying me that there was a response (locks up Outlook).

McAfee and Spyboy S&D are up to date and found nothing.

Will try Office newsgroup for further suggestions.

Thanks!
