Hi,

How can I setup windows xp so that when I double click a desktop application icon, it will start the application, such as notepad or OE or IE. I have to right click the mouse to open it for now.

Thanks a lot.

What is Search Companion? When I double click an icon on the desktop,
nothing happens.

When you right click on an icon on the desktop, is Open the top item and is
it in BOLD letters?

Your symptom resembles these..
You Are Unable to Start a Program with an .exe File Extension

You cannot start programs when your computer is infected with the SirCam

But, you might try this first.

Read the instructions. Then get...

Hi,

Now, I cannot double click to open a folder in Explorer (nothing happens, no
search window. The option is to use double click to open a folder ). I ran
the Folder Association Fix but no use. Do you have any suggestions?

Thanks.

Try this...

Click Start, Run and type this command:

regsvr32 /i shell32.dll

I had a similar problem recently when my "Favourites" folder somehow jumped into the "cookies' folder.

When I put it back to its proper place all the desktop shortcuts started working again.

Do a search for *.lnk and inspect the result for errant paths.
