Opening a file with two different applications.

I know that I can click on a .txt file and have it open with Notepad.
And to open it with something such as WordPad or JEdit, I can right click on
it and either use 'Open With' or 'Send To' [after putting the respective
shortcut in the 'Send To' folder.

But, I was wondering if there is a way to accomplish this by doing something
along the lines of selecting a key and left clicking the application [such as
holding down 'Control' and double clicking the application to have an
alternate application open the file], or something along those lines?

If there's anything anyone could help me with, it would be appreciated.

Thank you.

A keystroke macro program might help you. As for me, the "open with"
right click approach works fine for the few times I want to open a file
with an alternate program.
