Double boot with Win2K ?

S

Stuart Crow

Hello all
I wish to set up my pc to double boot with Xp Pro and 2000 Pro.
At present I have a C partition with XP Pro and two more partitions D
and E in a logical partition.
I wish to use Partition Magic 7, possibly 8 to create a new primary
partition after C and install Win2K Pro onto that. I have done this
sort of thing before, booting Me, 2K, Linux etc., again using
Partition Magic, but of course an XP partition is larger that 95, Me
etc. I will then use BootMagic for the double boot, hiding the 2K
primary partition for the XP boot and the XP partition for the 2K
boot.
I seem to remember that there is something about a primary partition
having to be within the first x cylinders or it may not be bootable
(?)
Does this still apply ? My XP partition is about 7 Gb, which can be
reduced, but I would still like to leave at least 1 Gb free, and a new
2K partition created from part of the XP and moving the start of the D
partititon may cause part of the new primary 2K partition to be
outside of the x cylinder limit.
Any advice gratefully received.

Hi Stuart,

The boundary limit you are thinking of is 8GB, and it doesn't apply in this
case. You can install Win2K anywhere on the drive you choose. Use BM's
instructions for setup and installation.

No, especially when using something like Boot Magic. But do make sure
you have PM 8 to avoid possible troubles with the XP version of NTFS
