Dot Matrix Buffer Help

We recently set up a Genicom LA700 plus Dot Matrix printer to print
notices at our library. The forms print out ok, but it seems that when
the buffer is full, the printer stops printing. The reason I think the
buffer is the problem is because when it was set to 32k it would stop
printing at around 40-50 notices and after I changed the buffer size to
64k, it now stops at around 90 notices.

The printer is using the parallel port coming from an HP jet direct
card. I contacted Genicom, both by email and phone, but got no reply.

Here are some of the settings that might pertain to this problem:

Interfact Type - Automatic
I/F Time-Out - 6 seconds
Input Beffer - 64k
Parallel Mode - Bidirectional
Autofeed Signal - Disabled
SLCT-IN Signal - Disabled
Discon. on Fault - No Discon.
Word Length - 8 bit
Baud Rate - 9600
Parity Bit - None
Buffer Control - XON/XOFF
Robust XON - Yes

Thanks in advance for any help.

Since you're using the JetDirect box, it's hard to tell if the problem is with
the printer or with the JetDirect or with your cable. Try temporarily
connecting the printer directly to the PC and see if you get the same
problem. If you do, try a new printer cable.

Also, your printer has both serial and parallel inerfaces and it looks like
you have it set to automatically choose between the two. If you're not using
the serial interface, change your to "interface type" setting to "parallel
only" instead of "automatic"; since this might be confusing the JetDirect.
