Hi

Not sure this is the right forum to post this but:

..pst file was deleted but using some software it has been
found through Dos. To restore this file we must use a
different disk to the one it is currently on. Being a
laptop we are unable to connect another hard disk to it.

Is there any way we can copy the data to another location
e.g. across the network in dos?

Thanks

Do this:

1. Boot your machine with a Win98 boot disk from
www.bootdisk.com.
2. Undelete the file with your DOS undelete tool.
3. As a destination, specify the ramdisk drive that
you automatically get with this boot disk. You may
have to adjust a:\config.sys to get a sufficiently
large ramdisk.
4. Copy the file from the ramdisk back to the hard
disk.

Note that Step 4 above will probably prevent any
further attempts at undeleting the file. If the file is
incomplete then you won't get another chance. If
this is too risky, then you have to use one of these
alternative solutions:

a) Remove the disk and install it in a desktop PC.
You will need a low cost adapter.

b) Create a DOS network disk. This is not a trivial
task.

These things are, of course, entirely avoided by backing
up all important files (including EMail files) at least once
every week.
