DOS blanks half of the screen

i have this old DOS program running under xp pro.
for some reason it wont open full screen.

i set it to open full screen and the screen is being used fully but the
actual part of the screen being used is just the top half.

the bottom part stays blanc.

i had this problem before in win2000 somehow i then fixed it. though copying
all the files from there to xp doesnt solve the problem.
does anyone know how to get the program to be running full screen?

Try changing your settings on the Layout tab of the dos properties.

Start/run, type CMD. Rightclick the left corner icon, then Properties.

The answer is still in CMD. You open CMD (in the C:\Windows\System32
folder), right-click the top bar, click Defaults, Layout tab, set the
window size to W 80 by H 25. When the association calls up CMD, you get
the program to run in the proper full-screen CMD window.
