"DoOpenPipeStream could not be located"

P

Paul K

Have Windows XP updated from 98.

Have lost sound. Was working before. I re-installed (?)
IE from the WinXP CD, then seemed to lose other
functions, such as ability for Win Media Player to play
more than one mpg file, and the sound. I then went back
to WinXP CD and checked each function I wanted, and tried
again. No help with the audio.

Troubleshooting, I go to Control Panel and go to Sounds
and Audio Devices, and there is No Audio Device.

Troubleshooting, I click on <glowing> Open Device
Manager, and get message: "The procedure entry point
DoOpenPipeStream could not be located in the dynamic link
library ScrRun.dll"

I went to Updates and downloaded all available updates.

I have no volume control icon on my Notification Area,
and also missing are printer icon and probably some other
things as well. Printer does work however.

Any help appreciated!)
